HEM Breda, the Netherlands has chosen GDS to produce their most pioneering kiosk for identity recognition. This solution can be used wherever a check is required before vending products (e.g. cigarettes and alcohol). HEM validates transactions remotely. From a terminal in a store or near the entrance of a catering establishment that is fitted with network cameras, an image of the consumer is transmitted via a secure network to the HEM age check centre. Here, an employee determines among other things whether the individual is over the required age. If the (legal) requirements are unmistakeably fulfilled, the system transmits an authorisation signal. This process takes about 3.5 seconds. The authorisation signal serves different technical versions.
The system also provides solutions in cases where there is doubt - for instance regarding whether the individual is over the required age. In the latter case, the consumer is asked to present proof of identity. Once it has been established that the consumer is identical to the person on the proof of identity, and only after all the (legal) requirements have been fulfilled, will an authorisation signal be transmitted. Otherwise the transaction will be denied.
The service is available both as a (self)checkout solution and as a standalone vending solution.
