GDS Supports Romanian Community by Investing in Local Schools
Global Display Solutions (GDS) Ltd., market leader in the design and manufacture of industrial displays, has instigated a unique relationship between several Italian and Romanian schools local to its relevant manufacturing sites.
The partnership has been established by GDS in order to support the Romanian community following the recent opening of GDS's manufacturing facility in Arad. The Italian schools involved in the scheme are from towns called Trissino and Motta Di Livenzo, and were chosen due to their proximity to GDS's Italian headquarters in Cornedo and the GDS MS offices in Motta Di Livenzo. The unique partnership will enable the schools to exchange ideas and provide students with an opportunity to gain experience and develop a career in electronics.
The partnership will also make the Romanian schools eligible to receive EU funding, as the Romanian government does not provide local schools with financial support this is vital to help keep them alive. To date GDS has provided the Romanian schools with a variety of equipment, enabling the students to learn about different aspects of the industry, such as soldering, first hand. Romanian students will also be given the opportunity to work in GDS's Arad facility, being trained in all departments such as assembly, testing, repair and PCB insertion. Eight students are currently working inside the GDS resource on a work experience basis.
This groundbreaking scheme has been created due to the success of a similar project GDS employed when it first established a facility in Cornedo, Italy in 1979. When the Italian site was first opened GDS invested its time and money into working with local Italian schools and training students in the field of monitor electronics. This investment was rewarded in the long-term as many of the Senior Managers currently with GDS originally came to the company through this initiative. By investing in the local Romanian community in Arad GDS hopes to provide the area with a mass of opportunities, and the initiative has already been very well received by the Romanian people.
Marco Cohen, Sales and Marketing Manager at GDS, comments: We feel that this is a very positive project and will prove extremely beneficial to the future success of GDS in Romania. If you take GDS Italy, the same initiative not only provided jobs for the locals but also a personal development path which would never have been available without it. The success of the Italian initiative secured a work force for GDS whilst giving back to the community and this is what we plan to replicate in Romania.
GDS established its manufacturing facility in Arad, Romania in September 2004 and has recently invested over 1 Million Euro into the site. By the end of 2005 GDS Manufacturing Services SA plans to employ 60 people at the Romanian site, the expansion will be facilitated by this new investment and will provide the locals with positive prospects through this unique initiative.
